RESOLUTION NO. 187 11

A RESOLUTION TO DISCONTINUE THE FLAT RATE MONTHLY AUTOMOBILE
ALLOWANCE AND PROVIDE ALL COUNCILMEMBERS WITH MILEAGE
REIMBURSEMENT OF UP TO $0.55 CENTS PER MILE FOR THE USE OF A
PRIVATELY OWNED AUTOMOBILE ON OFFICIAL BUSINESS.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 2, Section 2 -101, Hawai`i County Code, the Council
Chair may authorize payment of monthly automobile allowance to any councilmember, officer
or employee for the regular use of a privately owned automobile or a mileage allowance
reimbursement up to $0.55 cents per mile; and
WHEREAS, a flat rate monthly automobile allowance of Six Hundred Dollars ($600.00)
per month and mileage allowance reimbursement of up to $0.55 cents per mile are two kinds of
monthly car allowance currently available to council members; and
WHEREAS, it would appear fiscally prudent to discontinue the $600.00 flat rate
monthly automobile allowance for council members and provide all council members mileage
allowance reimbursement of up to $0.55 cents per mile for the use of a privately owned
automobile on official business; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
Council Chair discontinue the $600.00 flat rate monthly automobile allowance for council
members.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all council members on official business be
provided mileage allowance reimbursement of up to $0.55 cents per mile for the use of a
privately owned automobile.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the provisions of this resolution shall apply to the
2010/2012 Council term and take effect on December 1, 2011.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit copies of this
resolution to the Honorable Mayor William P. Kenoi, the Director of the Department of Finance,
and the Director of the Department of Public Works.
