Dear Council Members,
Please find attached a 5 page document illustrating the existing Walmart signage and the
proposed, updated logo signage for the Walmart store in Kailua Kona. The following is a breakdown
of the package contents:
Page 1: Illustrates the existing front facade and seaward facade with existing signage
(190 square feet each sign). Page 2: Illustrates Walmart's proposed (reduced)
sign package for which the variance is being sought (147 square feet
each sign).
Page 3: Illustrates an additional 20% reduction from Walmart's proposed sign
package.
Page 4: Illustrates the proposed signage with "halo" or back lighting affect. Actual
letter material will be less visible at night.
Page 5: Photoshopped images of the existing signage vs. the proposed signage from
3 vantage points.
I hope this package helps to illustrate the need for variance and the proposed sign package of this
recently remodeled Walmart store. Due to the topography of the site, our visibility and opportunity
to adequately identify and sign the store to residents and visitors alike is greatly limited. Our only
opportunity is the seaward facade and anything less than the approximate 147 square foot signs
would further reduce the visibility along Queen K Highway.
