The State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance
Division is providing federally derived funds of $33,002 for the purpose of supporting the
Hawaii County Police Department's Pu Malu program. These funds will be used to
provide training, purchase supplies, room rental for community awareness sessions, and
to purchase equipment to improve safety by enhancing the quality of the department's
investigation of crimes involving firearms and reducing firearms in the community.
Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division for
this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by
appropriating this $33,002 Pu Malu grant.
