Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication 494, reports as follows:
Communication 494, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated November 28, 2011,
nominates Ms. Gloria K. Wong of Council District 4, to the County of Hawai`i Salary
Commission.
A lifelong resident of Hawai`i, Ms. Wong is a self-employed business consultant and a freelance
writer. Ms. Wong is a former member of the Hawai`i County Cost of Government Commission
and the Hawai`i County Board of Appeals. She states that she is a Democrat. If confirmed, she
will serve a term to end December 31, 2016.
Pursuant to Section 13-28, Hawai`i County Code, there shall be a salary commission, consisting
of nine members who shall be residents of the county, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by
the County Council.
Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor, appeared before Your
Committee to introduce Ms. Wong.
Your Committee clarified that Ms. Wong does not have to appear before the full Council for
final confirmation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication 494, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Gloria K. Wong to the County of Hawai`i
Salary Commission.
