Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution 199-12, reports as follows:
Resolution 199-12, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication
No. 500, dated December 7, 2011, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of 20 oxygen delivery
systems from the North Hawai`i Community Hospital. This equipment, with a total value of
$32,444.16, will be used by the Hawai`i Fire Department's 15 Emergency Medical Services
(EMS) stations plus five (5) spare units, to afford a non-invasive option for EMS practioners to
provide respiratory support through a mask rather than the invasive endotracheal intubation.
Fire Chief Darren Rosario and Battalion Chief Lance Uchida appeared before Your Committee,
Mr. Uchida provided a brief overview of this equipment,and further explained how these tools
will help improve pre-hospital settings for patients. He also provided information regarding the
department's partnership with the North Hawai`i Community Hospital.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawai`i County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money.
A letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution will be sent to the North Hawai`i
Community Hospital, 67-1125 Mamalahoa Highway, Kamuela, HI 96743, acknowledging this
generous donation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 199-12, and
recommends its adoption.
