Subject: Support for Bill 112 to prohibit the import of axis deer into Hawaii County
Aloha,
I would like to request inclusion of my email as testimony in support of Bill no.112 to
prohibit the transportation of axis deer into Hawaii County. I serve as a Specialist in
Invasive Weed Management with the Maui County Cooperative Extension Service and I have
made first -hand observations of massive deer populations competing with cattle for
palatable forage. Furthermore, deer do not consume fireweed, which have exacerbated
infestations. Deer populations in Hawaii County will have a direct negative impact on our
grazing pastures. Mahalo for the opportunity to express my views on this matter.
