Your Committee on Human Services, Social Services and Public Safety, to which was referred
Communication No. 534,reports as follows:
Communication No. 534,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 10, 2012,nominates
Mr. Guy K. Schutte of Council District 9 to serve on the County of Hawai`i Police Commission.
Chair K. Angel Pilago relinquished the chairmanship to Vice-Chair J Yoshimoto and he assumed chairmanship
of the Human Services, Social Services, and Public Safety Committee.
The Mayor's Executive Assistant, Charmaine Shigemura, introduced Mr. Schutte who is a lifelong resident
of Hawai`i and a self-employed cattle rancher. Mr. Schutte is actively involved with the State and County
Highways Litter Control Program. He volunteers at Parker Ranch's annual Fourth of July events with
their security staff. He was also an active volunteer at the Kawaihae Transitional Shelter's feeding the
homeless program. Mr. Schutte states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he
will serve a term to expire on December 31,2016
Mr. Schutte is not required to be present at full Council for final confirmation.
Your Committee on Human Services, Social Services and Public Safety is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Communication No. 534, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Guy K.
Schutte to the County of Hawai`i Police Commission.
