Your Committee on Human Services, Social Services and Public Safety, to which was referred
Communication No. 535, reports as follows:
Communication No. 535,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 10, 2012, nominates Mr.
Joseph K. Kealoha of Council District 9 to serve on the County of Hawai`i Liquor Control Adjudication
Board.
Chair K. Angel Pilago relinquished the chairmanship to Vice-Chair J Yoshimoto and he assumed chairmanship
of the Human Services, Social Services, and Public Safety Committee.
The Mayor's Executive Assistant, Charmaine Shigemura, presented background on Mr. Kealoha,who was
unable to attend the meeting. Mr. Kealoha is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and retired from the Hawai`i
County Police Department in 2004, after 28 years of service. He presently works as a Police Reserve
Officer. Mr. Kealoha served as a member of the 2009 Hawai`i County Charter Commission. He is currently
a member of the Hawaiian Homes Association, and a board member of Puukapu Homesteads. Mr. Kealoha
is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2016.
Mr. Hoffmann requested that Mr. Kealoha be present at the next Council meeting for confirmation.
Your Committee on Human Services, Social Services and Public Safety is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Communication No. 535, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Joseph K.
Kealoha to the County of Hawaii Liquor Control Adjudication Board.
