REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: January 31, 2012 Re: Comm. 531 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 10:31 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Comm. 531, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 531, from Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated January 9, 2012, requests confirmation <br /> of the appointment of Nominee Ms. Nancy Carr-Smith to the County of Hawai`i Board of <br /> Appeals. Ms. Carr-Smith is a ten-year resident of Hawaii. She is self-employed and the <br /> Principal Broker for Aloha Kohala Realty. <br /> Ms. Carr-Smith will complete her term as a member of the South Kohala CDP (Community <br /> Development Plan) Action Committee in February 2012. She is a board member of the Waimea <br /> Community Association and Ka Ulu 0 Kona. She is also a mediator at the West Hawai`i <br /> Mediation Center and volunteers with the Waimea Parade/Lokahi Giving Project. <br /> Ms. Carr-Smith is a member of the Democratic Party; and if confirmed, will serve a term to <br /> expire on December 31, 2016. <br /> Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor William Kenoi, introduced Ms. Carr-Smith <br /> who was present at the Waimea Council Office. <br /> Ms. Can-Smith stated that her volunteer work on the Action Committee of the South Kohala <br /> CDP is wrapping up and she would like to continue to do community volunteer work. She also <br /> stated that the Board of Appeals is a board that she can both contribute to and learn from. <br /> Council Member Pilago expressed his firm support and thanked Ms. Carr-Smith for her <br /> community service. <br /> Council Member Yagong stated that Ms. Carr-Smith's background in mediation will be very <br /> helpful for the Board and thanked her for her willingness to serve. <br /> Committee Chair Hoffmann related that Ms. Carr-Smith lives in his district and thanked her for <br /> her work in the community. <br /> Ms. Carr-Smith is not required to be present at full Council for final confirmation. <br /> PC Rept.
