AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, ARTICLE 8, DIVISION 3, SECTION 24-212 OF
THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO
PARKING, STANDING, AND STOPPING.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I:
SECTION 1. The purpose of this measure is to provide more parking in heavily used
areas such as Ali`i Drive and downtown Hilo. This change will allow parking within bus stops and
road taxi stands when bus stops and road taxi stands are not in effect. This parking allowance is
already permitted in loading and unloading zones.
SECTION 2. Chapter 24, Article 8, Division 3, Section 24-212, Parking in bus stops and road
taxi stands prohibited, subsections (c) and (d) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as
amended), are amended to read as follows:
(c) When the provisions of this section are not in effect, vehicles may park in bus stops
unless otherwise prohibited by this chapter.
[(c)]�d,) No person shall stop, stand or park any vehicle, other than a taxicab with a valid
road taxi stand permit, in a road taxi stand when the road taxi stand has been officially
designated and appropriately signed.
[(d)]fej The areas described in schedule 23.1, section 24-275.1 are designated as road taxi
stands, when appropriate signs and markings giving notice thereof are erected.
(f) When the provisions of this section are not in effect, vehicles may park in road taxi
stands unless otherwise prohibited by this chapter.
SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is underscored. In
printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed and stricken material and underscoring need not be
included.
SECTION 4. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof o
any person or circumstance, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application,
and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
