Subject: Res 117 -11 Support
Dear Councilmember Ford:
I urge you to support Resolution 117 -11 in support of a Hawaii County Complete Streets Policy. This Resolution is
an important step towards strengthening our Big Island communities. Complete Streets help to make it safer for
everyone to get to where they need to go, whether they are walking, riding a bike, driving a car or riding the bus.
In addition, complete streets help to provide access to physical activity and will help to provide greater mobility
choices for our keiki and kupuna.
Six years ago I moved here from Fort Collins, CO, where goals of good health and outdoor exercise are prized;
this is also reflected in state, county and city planning, such as for parks, recreation areas, and miles and miles of
bike and jogging lanes and trails. I have been sorely disappointed that Hawaii County does not also recognize the
value of these avenues and act in accordance with them. And to think that we have some of the most beautiful
countryside and weather in the US, and we do not provide the means to thoroughly enjoy them. I wish a
contingent of representatives would visit CO, and Fort Collins in particular, to witness what a treasure it is to have
such facilities available. We have to build roads anyway; why not make them accessible to all forms of travel.
I stronly urge you to vote in support of Resolution 117 -11. Thank you for your consideration.
