Updated building codes do not apply to existing buildings that were built to the code in existence at the time. This bill had to be written by a dictator or at least a person who has no conscience!! For someone's financial gain many elderly, disabled and children will be going to jail!! Ocean View is a unique environment not homogenized. We love it this way. We love the natural beauty of this area, basking in the silence green energy affords. To many, living here is a dream come true! The powers that be that want a profit from Ocean View want to destroy all that we love and bring in sidewalks and light posts!! I guess they have not looked at the stars without light pollution. It truly is a sight to behold!! They know we cannot afford to bring our dwellings up to code so we will be thrown in jail and then thrown off our properties with no compensation!! How can this attitude be tolerated ?? Is this still the U.S.A.? Land of the free and home of the brave ?? What about our constitutional rights ?? For the sake of liberty and justice for all please reconsider. (AND READ THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE!!) Thank You, Linda Schade 808- 430 -4463 PLEASE VOTE : NO on 270 the building code bill in it's current form YES on communication 128.74 proposed amendments to bill 270 YES on Resolution 167 -11 the sustainable / alternative building code proposal.
