To whom it may concern my name is Adam Snodgrass and i have been collecting aquarium fish in the
islands for ten years and i oppose to the complete ban of aquarium collecting bill . my only income
is involved in the aquarium industry and feel that no harm has come to the fishery, i personally see a
change year after year and though it may seem that aquarium fish diminish from the reef nature always
replenishes the reef and brings it back even stronger. i also feel that in these hard economical times this
also puts a positive impact on the reef the orders for aquarium fish are not in the highest of quantity
witch helps put a natural cap on the fish population. the aquarium industry is also the most heavily
regulated fishery in all of Hawaii, here in the big island there are more rules and regulations than any of
the other islands and it has been that way for the past ten years or more. i hear this same story year after
year and the only people that are not complaining are the aquarium fishermen the fish are always there.
if the fisherman were to complain to the ecologist and scientist then there would be a problem after all
its our lively hood. i am a man of small words and live by a certain ethic i take pride in what i do as a
aquarium fisherman and greatly respect the resource that is given to us. i would also like to say that
the hard economical times that are here and ahead have more to do with the impact on commercial and
recreational tourism businesses than aquarium fisherman one of those rules that i spoke of were made
ten years ago to avoid user conflict amongst the fisherman and the dive charters fish regulated areas of
over 30% of west Hawaii are closed to fisher man and open to charters further more all aquarium
fisherman do business with one or another tourist business and benefit from our business. in all of my
years of fishing i have never been blamed for a tourism's businesses loss. i am born and raised in Hawaii
and this is the first time i have ever heard of this so called impact on tourism from my occupation. The
ocean is my way of life and management should be sugested before compleetly shut down. aloha.
