Dear Committee Chair Pilago : I support a ban on the selling of Hawaii's reef fish to
aquarium trade outside of the state. This is unsustainable and Hawaii will lose its
heritage, cultural, spiritual, and economic resource of healthy beautiful coral reefs.
Please stop this travesty now Mahalo!

Subject: Aquarium Fishing
Aloha,
As a scuba dive instructor I wish to stress the importance of keeping Hawaii's reef fish on the reef where
they belong. They are an important part of the health of the eco system. The corals are protected and
they can't survive without the reef fish. Hawaii's tourist based economy can't survive without the
beautiful oceans, the beautiful reef fish and the corals. Taking this important cultural, spiritual, and
economic link out of the system just doesn't make sense. Divers and snorkelers will vacation
somewhere else. No other animals are hunted so unsustainably - usually they are regulated by size (so
that hopefully they reproduce before we kill them), gender (spare the female and egg bearing lobster),
season (again so they can reproduce). Aquarium fishers prefer the juveniles. And the animal cruelty
involved is akin to shark finning.
Please keep our reef fish here where they thrive and are needed!!!
