I am proud to have worked as a nurse and an aquarium fish collector during most of those years. I am opposed to Resolution 130 -11. I am questioning the reason why all of our time is being wasted here today. This resolution is being recommended based on an unbelievable amount of emotional, exaggerated untruths and misquotes. You need to talk and listen to the experts. The claims of our reefs being devastated, are certainly not what Dr. Bill Walsh spoke about at a recent symposium held in Kona. We must use dive flags, a stiffened AQ flag while collecting, our boats must be identified with a set size AQ stickers (scarlet letter ?). We do not have access to over 36% of the West Hawaii coastline for collecting. The most absurd rule is that in the "protected " (from Aquarium fish collectors) areas, it is legal for any other user to take fish of any size (including the breeders) from those same reefs as Long as they are dead! The Marine Aquarium Council did work to standardize this industry across the Pacific. They use the methods we employ to teach the countries that were using drugs, chemicals, reef pounding methods and dynamite to harvest fish. Please do a little research on the inaccurate information being spread... before you accept it as truth.
