Aloha Council Chair Yoshimoto and members of this County Council,
I'm an active member of our Kona community and currently serve as
president of Hawaiian Civic Club of Kona - Kuakini, Vice President of the
Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs and serve on the Hawaii Island Burial
Council.
am speaking on my own behalf.
I support this affordable housing community. Forest City Hawaii is not here
to build and run. They are here to be a long -time partner with our
community.
During this three -year plus process of the Kona Community Development
Plan, everyone said yes to affordable housing.
The County ordinances need to catch up to the CDP. Of course we should
give the project these exemptions. It will allow the project to conform to the
CDP.
Forest City is asking for 56 exemptions. Sounds like a lot but, almost
48 of them are to meet SmartCode principles and /or Kona CDP
guidelines. The others are affordable housing exemptions on fees.
Don't penalize the affordable project.
West Hawaii and our entire island ohana is FOR affordable housing.
