Aloha Council,

COUNTY CLERK
COUNTY OF 'HAWAII
nil OCT -4 AM & 19
I, Puna Brown, oppose resolution 130 -11. I am a resident of the Big Island of Hawaii
and fishing provides a means of income for my family. This proposed ban
has no merit and scientific evidence to support it. It goes against The
West Hawaii Fishery Council,a community based management system that is
for the people and by the people of West Hawaii, who strongly oppose
this ban and are in support of management -not a shut down of a viable
fishery. The local scientists that study our reefs say that the current
level of harvest is sustainable. Many new management plans are currently
being implemented to further the protect our reef fish and to ensure
that the fishery is sustainable for generations to come. Slot limits
which protect breeding sizes of fish is a common sense management plan
being implemented along with a white list of permitted species which
ensure that species that do not fare well in captivity are left on the
reef. These tied together with 33% of the coast line off limits to
aquarium fisherman should let you know that this is not a resource
issue. This is a issue with keeping fish as pets, and who is to say what
fish is okay for dinner is not okay as a pet,
Please vote NO to resolution 130 -11 as many of you did to the duplicate
resolution 140 -11 and ensure that we as Big Island residents do not put
more people out of work.
Thank You
Puna Brown
