Dear Committee Chair Pilago : I have worked in marine tourism for 10 years on the Big
Island. I believe we mus take action NOW to ban aquarium fish collection. We rely on
visitors who in turn rely on our state to provide beautiful and healthy reefs to enjoy on
their destination. Personally, I had witnessed a HUGE decline of species which I once saw
everyday. These "collectors" have no enforcement or restriction and without a complete
ban, our state will be nothing but a non - destination. Please save our reefs and fish in
order to preserve Hawaii's future economy, beauty and aina. Do not ignore this issue
until it is too late. Far more money is generated by eco tourism than stealing fish off
the reefs (many of which die in the process). Hawaii belongs in Hawaii, not dead in a bag
or dying in a foreign tank overseas.
