Subject: plastic bag ban
Dear County Council Representatives,

I am in favor of a plastic bag ban. To say that this initiative interferes with our civil liberties is just a ploy to save
the businesses money. The damage that plastic bags do to our environment is what needs to be considered not
saving businesses money. The bags are manufactured with petroleum based non - renewable products and less
then 2% of the population recycle the bags so they end up in our landfill or worse yet our oceans.
Some stores give money back when using reusable bags, perhaps they should just charge shoppers when they
don't use them. This might increase the level of conscientiousness in our community. Something needs to be
done. I still see people throwing away recyclable cans and bottles - do you think we will ever get these people to
use reusable bags on their own!
I don't support micro - management by the government but I strongly feel in this case the government needs to
step in and step up to what is already happening in most of Europe and many parts of the US by banning the use
of plastic bags!
Respectfully,
Jeanine Acia
