Re: Plastic Bags
Please do not ban plastic bags for food. In the grocery stories you karakillies ,
buying great loads of groceries all in plastic bags. They are not the individual shopper
with one bag of food using a recycled bag` l\
It's very important to buy clean, healthy food when there is so much food borne
bacteria such as e -coli and salmonella. If we had to bring re- usable bags from home to
use, I would be concerned about their being free of bacteria. Because the re- usable bags
would be used repeatedly for different foods such as raw meat with raw vegetables which
is a big no -no. Also, where would these bags be stored from week to week? People
would probably throw them in the trunk or backseat of the car or back of the truck along
with the family pets or trash for the dump but the new plastic bag is always nice and
clean to keep our food healthy.

Plastic bags are so light- weight, and some are biodegradable and often made of
plant material rather than petroleum. They are easy to care and store for other uses too. Of
course, you have heard many times about the many re -uses of plastic bags such as
picking up litter, taking your gear to the beach, books to the library and at the grocery
store they have a bin to return them for credit. Best of all, they line our garbage cans.
What would we do without them? Buy plastic bags, adding to our high cost of living?
Paper bags are not a good alternative, they take up a lot of space for storage, attract
cockroaches, do not hold up for your garbage and use a lot of trees.
If something should be banned, it should be }at Styrofoam for food. Recently it is
thought to be cancer causing and does litter the beaches and roadways. It never breaks
down, or it does in little pieces for the birds and turtles to eat and die. I have never seen a
plastic bag flying around loose in the ocean, the roadways or the County Waste Stations,
but I have seen a lot of littered Styrofoam.
