Brandt, CEO of Innovations Development Group Inc., of Oahu. They would like to do a 45-minute presentation regarding renewable energy resources of indigenous peoples to the Council. DominicYagong March 2,2012 Council Chair,City Council of Hawaii 25 Aupuni Street, Ste. 1402 Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Aloha ChairYagong, The Innovations Development Group (IDG) is a Hawaii based corporation created by Native Hawaiians to facilitate the development of the renewable energy resources of indigenous peoples.The IDG has a history of developing renewable energy resources in New Zealand, utilizing a business model based on trust &fiduciary principles as well as human rights protections. See the IDG web site at www.idghawaii.com. The IDG presented its model to members of the State legislative energy & land committees in summer of 20 I I,and since that time has worked with legislators to prepare legislation that will encourage and support,as a priority,the development of public trust energy resources in Hawaii pursuant to the States trust obligation in a manner that returns revenues to the State, and benefits to its residents. Several bills relating to geothermal development are currently in the legislative hopper and we are happy to see that there is significant support for many of these measures. The IDG has been working with others on Hawaii Island to educate the public about the need to develop geothermal resources for our island. Last year IDG sponsored community panels in Puna, Hilo,Waimea and Kona on geothermal development & its business model. At these community sessions,the IDG took a survey of community support for geothermal development under its community collaboration model.The results were encouraging and very positive. We would like to present these results as well as our model to yourself and the Hawaii County Council,and are forwarding this letter to request that you facilitate this effort. Last year the HEI posted a Request for Interest (RFI) for the development of 50 MWs of geothermal energy on Hawaii Island.The IDG and a team of technical experts responded to this RFI and submitted a proposal for consideration. Since that time we have met with the HEI team to discuss our proposal and the intentions of the HELCO group to work with the private sector to facilitate the production of electricity from geothermal resources for Hawaii Island.We have also secured the support of private land owners, including the Kealoha Estate, on Hawaii Island whose lands are in known geothermal subzones, and have flown over these geothermal resource areas on public lands with staff of the DLNR (Oahu) who are currently identifying State lands with geothermal resources on Hawaii Island. We believe that Hawaii Island's renewable energy resources provide a secure foundation for our islands energy independence and self-sufficiency, ad look forward to sharing our knowledge, plans & technical skills with the County.
