URGES THE MAYOR TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A FULLY FUNDED
DIVERSION GRANTS PILOT PROGRAM FOR THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
Urges the Mayor to develop and implement a three -year pilot diversion grant program for
recyclable materials by July 1, 2012, and that the current two bin system for the collection of
materials at County transfer stations should be continued during the three -year pilot program
in order to provide for the accurate collection of data to determine the use of the diversion
grant program. A fully funded diversion grant program could provide a monetary incentive in
order to increase the diversion rates by motivating the general public with a financial reward.
