Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution 246-12, reports as follows:
Resolution 246-12, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication
No. 675, dated April 13, 2012, authorizes the acceptance of a monetary donation of$2,000 from
the Keaukaha Community Association to the Department of Parks and Recreation to be used to
help pay for the training of its staff to repair"Softurf," a safety-surface for playgrounds.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawai`i County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money.
Chair Ford requested staff contact Parks and Recreation Director Bob Fitzgerald or designated
representative to appear at the next Council meeting on May 15, 2012. This is pursuant to
Council Member Pete Hoffmann's request for someone to explain what "Softurf' is and training
of Parks and Recreation staff to repair"Softurf', a safety-surface for playgrounds.
A letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution will be sent to Keaukaha Community
Association, 328 Todd Avenue, Hilo, HI 96720.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 246-12, and
recommends its adoption.
