RESOLUTION NO. 268 12
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE DONATION OF TWENTY
FOUR RESCUE TUBES BY THE ROTARY CLUB OF SOUTH HILO TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club is a world-wide eleomosinary organization dedicated to the
betterment of society; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of South Hilo is one of eight local chapters of this world-wide
organization; and
WHEREAS,the Rotary Club of South Hilo provides community outreach and assists other
organizations and agencies with programs and services; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of South Hilo wishes to assist the County of Hawai`i by
providing and installing Rescue Tubes at various beaches across the island; and
WHEREAS, a Rescue Tube is a safety flotation device utilized to save persons who are in
distress in the water; and
WHEREAS, on Kaua`i, numerous drownings have been prevented through the use of Rescue
Tubes; and
WHEREAS,the Rotary Club of South Hilo, is initially donating twenty four (24) Rescue
Tubes for installation at strategic shoreline locations in East Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS,the Rescue Tubes will be installed by the Rotary Club of South Hilo; and
WHEREAS,the Rescue Tubes have an estimated total value of$2,400; and
WHEREAS,Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter provides in part
that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of personal property; and
WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this
donation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in
accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter, the Council of the
County of Hawai`i accepts this donation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this
resolution be sent to the Rotary Club of South Hilo, P.O. Box 6173, Hilo, Hawai`i 96720.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward copies of this
resolution to the Honorable Mayor William P. Kenoi, the Director of the Department of Parks
and Recreation, the Deputy Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Chief of the
Hawai`i County Fire Department, and the Chief of the Hawai`i County Police Department.
