SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT:
SECTION 24-264 —STOP INTERSECTION - EAST PUAINAKO STREET-
OHUOHU STREET INTERSECTION
We request the Hawai'i County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10 (Schedules), Division 2 (Moving
Vehicles), Section 24-264, Schedule 12 (Stop intersections), subsection (c) South Hilo be
amended by adding new item and renumbering as required:
( ) EAST PUAINAKO STREET/OHUGHU STREET INTERSECTION, ALL
APPROACHES.
This amendment was generated based on the East Makaala Mixed Use Development
Traffic Impact Analysis Report that recommended that the subject intersection be
converted to an all-way stop when the traffic volumes warrant it. The Traffic Division
conducted a traffic count and all-way stop warrant study in January 2012 and found that
the current traffic conditions warrant an all-way stop.
