SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT:
SECTION 24-284 - TWO HOUR PARKING AREAS — MOHOULI STREET
We request the Hawai'i County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10 (Schedules), Division 5
(Parking), Section 24-284, Schedule 32 (Two hour parking areas), subsection (c) (South
Hilo) be amended by deleting item 22:
{22) Mohouli Street, Puna side, the last three parking stalls approaching Kilauea
Avenue.
This amendment was generated by a request to improve the flow of traffic through the
Mohouli Street/Kilauea Avenue intersection. The Traffic Division is proposing to convert
this area to a no parking at anytime area.
In April 2012, the Traffic Division conducted a traffic study and found that the subject
stalls were illegally used and when occupied, caused unnecessary congestion at the
intersection. Also found in the study, are other stalls available throughout the day along
Mohouli Street.
In an effort to offset the loss of the three parking stalls, the Traffic Division will be
looking to add as many stalls as possible along Mohouli Street between Kilauea Avenue
and Kinoole Street.
