Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution 260-12, reports as follows:
Resolution 260-12, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication
No. 723, dated May 14, 2012, authorizes the acceptance of fire rescue equipment, with a total
value of$25,515.23 from the Daniel Sayre Memorial Foundation. This equipment will be used
by the Hawaii Fire Department's Fire Rescue and Ocean Safety Divisions to provide for the
safety of our Fire Department personnel and to facilitate the safe delivery of rescue services to
the public.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money.
Chair Brenda Ford relinquished the chairmanship to Vice-Chair Dominic Yagong, and he
assumed chairmanship of the Finance Committee.
Fire Chief Darren Rosario appeared before Your Committee. Fire Chief Rosario provided details
and how this donation will be used to provide for the safety of personnel and facilitate safe
delivery of rescue services to the public. This equipment will be used by the Kailua-Kona and
Waikoloa Fire Department's Fire Rescue and Ocean Safety Divisions.
There was no further discussion on this matter.
A letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution will be sent to Laura Mallery-Sayre, Daniel
Sayre Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 1285, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 260-12, and
recommends its adoption.
