Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution 261-12, reports as follows:
Resolution 261-12, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication
No. 724, dated May 14, 2012, authorizes the acceptance of three used Class A Pumpers and two
1,500 gallon water tankers from the Honolulu Fire Department. This equipment was offered to
the Hawai`i Fire Department by the Honolulu Fire Department when they received new
apparatus. The Class A Pumpers will be used as back up to our Fire Department's front line
fleet, and the tankers will be used to support wildland firefighting activities. This equipment,
valued at $5,000 each, for a total value of$25,000.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money.
Chair Brenda Ford relinquished the chairmanship to Vice-Chair Dominic Yagong, and he
assumed chairmanship of the Finance Committee.
Fire Chief Darryl Rosario appeared before Your Committee. Fire Chief Rosario provided details
of fire apparatus and on how this donation will be used. Furthermore, Chief Rosario explained
their continuing efforts with partnering Fire Departments and State agencies on acquiring much
needed fire apparatus until the County financial situation improves.
A letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution will be sent to Kenneth Silva, Fire Chief,
Honolulu Fire Department, 636 South Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813-5007.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 261-12, and
recommends its adoption.
