Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution 262-12, reports as follows:
Resolution 262-12, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication
No. 732, dated May 30, 2012, authorizing the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement
with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Honolulu Division, pursuant to HRS 46-7, to allow for
the use of office space at the Hilo Police Station.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County departments must obtain the consent
of the Council to enter into agreements with the Federal or State governments respecting action
to be taken pursuant to any powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or
other assistance connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers.
Assistant Chief Marshall Kanehailua appeared before Your Committee. Assistant Chief
Kanehailua provided details and FBI's desire to occupy office space in the Hilo Police Station.
This will allow FBI agency to store files and equipment, as modifications will be made to office
to accommodate them.
Furthermore, it was noted by Ms. Ford that a representative from the Police Department would
not have to attend the next Council meeting.
There was no further discussion on this matter.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution 262-12, and
recommends its adoption.
