Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Comm. No. 729/Bill No. 259, reports as
follows:
Bill No. 259 transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, via Communication No. 729, dated May
16, 2012, is an ordinance amending Section 25-8-33 (City of Hilo Zone Map), Article 8, Chapter
25 (Zoning Code) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition), by changing the District
Classification from Single-Family Residential— 10,000 square feet (RS-10) to Industrial-
Commercial Mixed—20,000 square feet (MCX-20) at Waiakea South Hilo, Hawai`i, covered by
Tax Map Key 2-2-035:003. Also enclosed was a favorable recommendation from the Windward
Planning Commission Chair Zendo Kern.
Council Member Onishi stated this was in his district and that it was a relocation of a veterinary
clinic into an area that has mixed commercial use in it. He further stated that he supports this and
asked for all council members to support it.
Your Committee on Planning is in accordance with the purpose and intent of Bill 259, and
recommends its passage on first reading.
