Your Committee on Governmental Relations, to which was referred Resolution No. 266-12, reports as
follows:
Resolution No. 266-12, transmitted by Council Member Pete Hoffmann, via Communication No. 741,
dated May 30, 2012, directs the Clerk of the County of Hawaii to take necessary action to place the
Charter amendment proposed by Ordinance No. 12-70 on the 2012 General Election ballot.
Ordinance No. 12-70 proposes an amendment to the Hawaii County Charter to amend provisions
relating to the County Redistricting Commission. Resolution No. 266-12 directs the Clerk to take all
necessary steps provided for in all applicable provisions of the Hawai`i County Charter and the Hawai
Revised Statutes, within the prescribed time limits, for placing the Charter amendment proposed by
Ordinance No. 12-70 on the 2012 General Election ballot for approval by the voters of the County.
Mr. Hoffmann stated that this is standard procedure that when a Charter amendment passes three
readings of the Council, a resolution is brought forward to direct the Clerk to place it on the ballot.
Your Committee on Governmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 266-12, and recommends its adoption.
