Adult Day Care Facility
Dear Ms. Kawauchi,
Thank you for the copy of the Council Resolution urging the Legislature to fund the construction of an
adult day care facility in Hilo. I agree with the County Council that there is critical need for a community-
based, care facility for the daily needs of the frail elderly. HB 2334 proposed to authorize the issuance of
a special purpose revenue bond to assist the Hawaii Island Community Development Corporation. HB
2334 passed the House of Representatives and crossed over to the Senate.
While the Senate Committee on Human Services deferred the bill,the supporters for the adult day care
facility and I agree that a Grant In Aid (GIA) appropriation is really more in line with their organizational
and program goals. I will continue to monitor this as we head into conference.
