No 1/0.3 1/0.3 Ref. To: r/ kr Ref. Date MAY 6 1U1 5/15/2012 To: County Council, County of Hawaii May 15, 2012 Testimony opposed to Comm. 710, Bill 256, regarding the Puna Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits fund My name is Jay Bondesen and I live in Leilani Estates. My wife and I purchased a lot here in 2005 and we were aware of the proximity and possible hazards of the geothermal plant. For the record we are among the normally silent majority of residents in Puna that view geothermal power as a viable alternative to the other options available for our island. We believe that the existing chapter two, article 36 is better able to enhance life in the Puna District than the proposed amended article. While some updating might be considered appropriate we do not think that this drastic rewording of one of the primary intents of funding use should be altered. To us it appears to be directed to simply mollify a vocal group of anti-geothermal activists. Changing this program requires more thought as well as more community input and these amendments should not be taken lightly. This funding availability has benefited the many Puna residents who have historically been the last in line for infrastructure improvements. Like Leilani Estates, good neighbors try to do what they can to help each other out. Thank you for your consideration. Jay & Sara Bondesen 13-3651 Nohea Street Pahoa, HI 96778 jayrbondesen @gmail.com
