Re: Save Grocery Plastic Bags
In the grocery stores you see families buying great loads of groceries
in plastic bags, as I do also. The single people use re-usable bags.
Its very important to buy clean, healthy food especially when there is
so much food borne bacteria such as e-coli and salmonella possible. If we
had to bring re-usable bags from home to use, I would be concerned about
their being free of bacteria. Re-usable bags would be used repeatedly for
different foods such as raw meat and raw vegetables which is a big no-no.
Also where would these bags be stored week to week? People would
probably throw them in the trunk or backseat of the car or back of the truck
along with the family pets or trash for the dump but the new plastic bag is
always nice and clean to keep our food healthy.
Plastic bags are light weight, some are biodegradable and often made
of plant material rather than petroleum. They are easy to care for and store
for other uses too. Paper bags are not a good alternative, they use up a lot of
trees, take up a lot of space, attract cockroaches and do not hold up for your
garbage.
If something should be banned, it should be Styrofoam for food.
Recently it is thought to be cancer causing and does litter the beaches and
roadways. It never breaks down, or it does in little pieces for the birds and
turtles to eat and die. I have never seen a plastic bag flying around loose, but
I have seen a lot of littered Styrofoam.
