Subject: Testimony re Resolution 201-11
Dear County Council Members:
I am writing to enthusiastically support Resolution 201-11— Related to a 10 year contract for Organic
Diversion & Compost Operations and 2-Bin Recycling Hauling Contract at the transfer stations.
As you may know, The Kohala Center's reports on Hawaii County material flows and agricultural
systems indicates a pressing need to both reduce the amount of material entering our landfills and to
create agricultural inputs for our struggling farmers. An investment on the part of the County in
diverting and processing organic waste addresses both these needs and should result in a long-term
net economic gain for Hawaii County residents.
