Section 15-2, Hawai`i County Charter, provides in part: "Upon adoption of an ordinance proposing amendments or revisions of this charter, or upon determination that a petition for proposed amendments or revisions of this charter contains the required number of signatures, the council shall by resolution provide that the proposed amendments or revisions be submitted to the electors of the county for approval at the next general election.” Due to the time-sensitive nature of this matter, I have requested waiver from the Committee on Governmental Relations and will place this resolution on the Council agenda for August 15, 2012. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to Committee on Human Services, Social Services and Public Safety for placement on its future agenda.
