Re: Special Meeting of the Hawai`i County Council
I am requesting a special meeting of the Hawaii County Council to be held August 20, 2012, at
10:00a.m. at the Hilo Council Chambers.
This will be an informational meeting to receive a detailed report from the Hawaii County Clerk
regarding the late opening of polling places and any other related problems that occurred on primary
election day, August 11, 2012.
It was reported on Saturday that multiple polling places were unable to open on time in the County of
Hawaii, resulting in Governor Abercrombie making a proclamation to extend voting hours in our
County. It is important that an accurate accounting is provided so that the general public gets precise
information in terms of what occurred at all polling places. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the
problems that occurred on primary election day are not repeated in the upcoming general election.
There is a sense of urgency regarding this matter and I believe it is time sensitive. That is why we are
seeking to convene this special meeting instead of utilizing the normal County Council meeting
schedule.
