Please add my objection the Bill 270. It is economic discrimination at its worst! It will make criminals out
of good citizens who, for whatever reason, cannot afford the"rules" proposed by Bill 270.
I have lived in HPP since 1980. There was no electric, no telephone, no police, and no pavement. I am a
"Deliberately Low Income" citizen, As a Soto Zen Buddhist, I have made a vow of poverty. I would rather
GIVE my services away, than make money. I have my own successful business (20+yrs) (Frame It!
Hawai'i) ; have been building my house a few thousand dollars at a time, for as many years. ( have an
arch stamp, finalled electric, and finalled plumbing, but STILL must pay commercial rate for electricity,
because HELCO pretends that I am not a resident, because I don't have an occupancy permit(has
anyone read the Constitution lately?)
I fully support the county's strict enforcement of building codes in public and commercial projects; we
have an obligation to protect citizens who use public and government facilities, but when it comes to my
personal home and life,) insist that citizens have a right to live within their own means, making do with
what they have, as all the generations before us. Do we want a Hawai'i Island that is good for ALL of our
citizens, or do we want Hawai'i Island to become just a"playground for the wealthy". I would rather have
an honest family living in a tent next door than have a crabby rich man complaining about the"inferiority"
of my lifestyle
Lastly, Bill 270 just won't work. Thomas Jefferson explained the reason this way:
"When injustice becomes Law, Resistance becomes Duty."
