Subject: Opposed to cutting the L.A.O. Budget
I hear that there is a move to reduce the budget of the Legislative Auditor's Office. Auditing is
an essential part of effective, efficient and transparent operation of both public and private
entities, but especially so in government. We oppose any effort to reduce the office's budget. In
fact, since the budget was reduced at the beginning of the Kenoi administration, one has to view
subsequent efforts to reduce the budget as attempts to put a veil of secrecy around the operations
of Hawai'i County government. If the budget is again reduced that will certainly be a factor in
opposing the Kenoi and council member candidacies in the upcoming election.
