PI PG
Murashige, Laura Clq
From: Matt Rifkin [mattrifkin28 @gmail.corn]
Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2012 3:22 PM
To: counciltestimony @co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: Hawaii County Council Planning Committee testimony for bill 209
I am a resident of Hawaii Paradise Park and I am opposed to bill 209 which would re-zone part
of Pahoa Town and allow for potential mass market commercial space to be developed.
I have lived on the east side of Hawaii island for 3 years (after spending 6 years in Kona), and
Pahoa is one of the last remaining, unique Hawaiian style towns not only on this island, but also
in the state. It is slowly recovering, growing and prospering after some bad years. Yes, new
businesses bring new jobs, but at what cost? Is there a need for yet another fast food restaurant
that looks just the same as any other? Absolutely not. Don't allow the pursuit of the almighty
dollar trump everything else.
Let Pahoa retain the charm that makes it special. Please vote against Bill 209
Thank you
Matthew Rifkin
Hawaiian Paradise Park, Keaau
Comm. N
Ref.To:_ 2
Ref. Date
6/15/2012
