Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. l7,
and attached Bill No. 5, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 5 is to amend Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 2, Section 24-272,
Schedule 20, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition), to prohibit right turns onto Alii
Drive from Kahakai Road.
Communication No. 17 is from Jiro A. Sumada, dated December 1, 1998, transmitting Bill
No. 5 for the Council's review and consideration. Mr. Sumada states that this request is due
to numerous vehicles crossing the centerline when turning right onto Alii Drive, thus creating
a hazardous condition at this intersection.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 5, and recommends that
it pass first reading.
