Mayor Kenoi, County Council members, and Members of the Public Access, Open Space and
Natural Resources Preservation Commission,
I am writing to urge you to support Resolution 276-12 to authorize the acquisition of'O'oma II. A
rare opportunity currently presents itself, as the property is for sale. The two parcels of coastal
land that make up 'O'oma II have been on Hawai'i' County's Open Space and Natural
Resources Preservation Commission's acquisition priority list since the fund's inception, so the
timing is perfect to accomplish this well-accepted community goal. 'O'oma is the region's last
open, natural, coastal space, and as the rest of this area is expected to fulfill its development
potential, the acquisition of this parcel will protect it from private, speculative development and
give residents a highly desirable recreational property, which is sorely lacking in West Hawaii.
