Subject: Testimony on Bills 257 &256 in order of importance to me
Honorable Council Members,
Regarding Bill 257:A public servant as the mayor was elected to serve as,has no higher duty to his
constituents than to protect them. To deny a plan to save lives in an emergency is criminal. How
can this be in a civilized order? Hundreds have testified in favor of this bill over the last few -
months, and the wise Council passed them three times, but mayor Billy Kenoi will deny us the riglfN
to basic health and safety. Billy Kenoi decided to take the side of corporations and developers
against our community.Wasting months of hard work by our community as well as the marathon
sessions our county council spent on this legislation. Many have spent all day at the council
repeatedly for a chance to finally be heard, missing work and time with their families in an
unprecedented show of community support for these bills only to have mayor Kenoi ignore us.
Regarding Bill 256: If the Mayor can show reasonable and mathematically precise
accounting to prove that the County cannot afford to protect inhabitants of the 1 mile
radius of geothermal production, then he should make those presentations. We are
reasonable people who do not want any of our ohana in harm's way...he has been elected to
be a leader in this purpose as stated above. We can show good cause. If there is no effort to
work at this on his part, as the Island participants have done, then it demonstrates his lack
of leadership and you will be closely tied to his failure. We need you to speak the Truth
now.
I ka 'olelo no ke ola, i ka 'olelo no ka make.
In speech is life, in speech is death.
E Ho'omaluhia, (Make Peace; Be the Peacemaker)
