A RESOLUTION STRONGLY URGING THE COUNTY CLERK TO HIRE AN
INDEPENDENT AND EXPERIENCED ELECTIONS ADMINISTRATOR TO RUN THE
2012 HAWAII COUNTY GENERAL ELECTION
WHEREAS, the County Clerk stated in her Primary Election Day Report dated June 4,
2012, "although I did my best to ensure that Hawaii County would have a fair and well-run
election... numerous Election Day irregularities occurred, including late delivery of election
materials to precincts and failed communications and equipment problems"; and
WHEREAS, to ensure a smooth running 2012 General Election, the Hawaii County
Clerk should hire an independent elections administrator who has five to 15 years of supervisory
experience in elections administration; and
WHEREAS, funding for this position and any associated costs shall derive from the
budget of the Office of the Clerk; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that the
County Clerk shall hire an independent and experienced elections administrator to run the 2012
Hawaii County General Election; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk shall hire this elections
administrator within seven business days from the adoption of this resolution; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Chief Election Officer, Chair of the Hawaii State Election Commission, Governor Neil
Abercrombie, Lt. Governor Brian Schatz and Mayor William P. Kenoi, County of Hawaii.
