RESOLUTION NO. 136
WHEREAS, some sixty-five per cent of building fires in
our County and some two-thirds of the deaths attributable to
fires occur in homes; and
WHEREAS, said loss of lives and property may be greatly
alleviated through a personalized, individual , educational
program; and
WHEREAS, beginning June, 1963, in the City of Hilo,
County and State of Hawaii , the Hawaii County Fire Department
will initiate a house to house home inspection program; and
WHEREAS, the sole purpose of said program is to inform,
advise and suggest to each home owner preventive and
precautionary measures against fire hazards as specifically
applicable to each home visited; and
WHEREAS, said project is an added community service and
will not be rendered with any design for enforcing any law,
ordinance or regulation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
in and for the County of Hawaii that it urges all residents
of the City of Hilo to invite the inspection teams from the
Hawaii County Fire Department into their homes in order to
obtain useful fire precautionary measures as applicable to
each individual home .
