Subject: Resolution 303-12
Dear Honorable Pete Hoffman and Councilmembers-
I wholeheartedly support Resolution 303-12 introduced by Brenda Ford.
The Public Land Development Corporation makes a mockery of our democratic processes and
effectively hands over protected lands to corporations in violation of the interests of the people
of the island of Hawaii and their descendants.
I recall hearing many years ago that the plan of a few people was to make "Puna-the Pittsburgh
of the Pacific".
They want to turn the most beautiful part of our island into a region of roaring refineries
belching toxic gases into the atmosphere day and night. Then, they would force locals to pay for
improvements or lose their property.
There is absolutely nothing good about the concept of the Public Land Development
Corporation. Corporations are given carte blanche to operate outside of the laws. The PLDC
must be abolished and never introduced again. It is an insult to the people of the Big Island.
Geothermal energy is but one way to generate energy for the state. A much simpler way would
be to put solar panels on every rooftop.
At this moment in time, solar technology research is accelerating, making it many times more
efficient, such as the new nanocone technology developed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

In addition, this new development points the way toward zero point energy, something that
would render investment in geothermal obsolete overnight.
It is not the duty of the Big Island to serve as a dumping ground for the worst ideas coming out
of the State Legislature.
Sincerely,
Vicki Vierra
