NO. 330/ BILL NO. 92 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 9:00 a.m. Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 330 and attached Bil] No. 92, reports as follows: The purpose of Bill No. 92 is to amend Chapter 24, Article 1 Q Division 5, by establishing a no parking at anytime, between Kaiwiki Road to Haahea Road on Wainaku Street. Bill No. 92 would amend Chapter 24, Article 1 Q Division 5, Section 24-280, Schedule 28 (no parking at anytime), subsection (f) Kona, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition) is amending by adding the following to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows: Wainaku Street, Kaiwiki Road to Haaheo Road. Communication No. 330 is a letter from Deputy Chief Engineer Jiro A. Sumada, dated June 7, 1999, which transmits Bill No. 92 to the Council for its review and consideration. Mr. Sumada states that Department of Public Works received a request to authorize a no parking zone on the mauka side of Wainaku Street because parked vehicles restrict sight distance for motorists entering Wainaku Street from roads and driveways. Since the ongoing road improvements along Wainaku Street has provided pedestrian walkways on both sides of the roadway, Mr. Sumada recommends parking be eliminated on both sides. Committee on Public Works & Parks June 22, 1999 Page -2- Communication No. 330.001 is from Police Chief Wayne G. Carvalho, dated June 16, 1999, to Mr. Jiro A. Sumada, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, stating that the Police Department has no objections to authorize a no parking zone on the mauka side of Wainaku Street.
