SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT:
SECTION 24-255 - 25 MPH SPEED LIMIT ADDITION — LAKO STREET
We request the Hawai'i County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10 (Schedules), Division 1 (Speed
Limits), Section 24-255, Schedule 3 (25 mile per hour limit), subsection (f) Kona be amended by
adding new item:
( ) LAKO STREET, EXCEPT FOR THE SECTION OF ROAD FROM THE PROPERTY
LINE BETWEEN PARCELS 7-6-027:035 AND 7-6-027:063 TO THE PROPERTY LINE
BETWEEN PARCELS 7-6-012:037 AND 7-6-012:038.
The intent of this amendment is to revise the speed limits along Lako Street to better
match the driving conditions of the road and to encourage speed limit compliance.
The Traffic Division's proposal is to keep the existing 25 mph speed limit except for the
portion of Lako Street from approximately midblock between Leilani Street and Kinau Street to
approximately midblock between Manu-O-Ku Place and Pakalakala Place.
A 35 mph speed limit is being proposed within the portion of Lako St. excluded from the
25 mph section.
A location map is attached for your reference.
