Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 453,
and attached Bil] No. 133, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 133 is to amend Chapter 24, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995
Edition) by proposing no pazking at anytime on Kalanianaole Street, north side, from a point
eight hundred fifty feet west of Onekahakaha Beach Road, and extending westward to Apapane
Street.
Communication No. 453 is from Chief Engineer Robert K. Yanabu, dated September 17, 1999,
transmitting Bill No. 133, informing that the Hilo Road Improvement, Phase III project has
provided new concrete sidewalks with afive-foot wide "Bike Path"on Kalanianaole Street
between Keokea Loop Road and Apapane Street. Mr. Yanabu states that the makai lane along
this section will be too narrow to accommodate both through traffic and pazked vehicles;
therefore, transmits Bill No. 133 for the Council's review and consideration.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 133, and recommends that it
pass first reading.
