Subject: Objection to Bill 256, Draft 2 Affecting Puna Homeowners
My name is Henry Calio and I am a resident of Leilani Estates. I have
lived here for 3 years and am very concerned about the proposed
amendment to the Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits
Program. I love this place, "my home".
We ask that you please listen to the long-time residents of the
community and vote against Bill 256, Draft 2. The financial impact to
homeowners will be devastating. Property values will be negatively
impacted. We have a hard time getting homeowners insurance now, and
if this bill passes, we won't be able to get insurance at all.
I have worked in the construction industry for 35 years across the
country from Hawaii to New Hampshire. Nuclear, Geothermal, and
Fossil Fuel Power Plants, refineries, chemical plants and commercial
buildings from start of construction to finish to maintenance. Having
been so immersed in the plants has not affected my health in any way,
and I was on-site working these projects.
What happened to Department of Public Safety, OSHA, or the Health
Department testimony? Where is their report? Where is the evidence?
What has other Geothermal Plants done in their region? Where does our
Geothermal Plant rank in their performance against others?
There has been no scientific data or medical evidence to justify your
position on Bill 256 (draft 2)
I stand united with my community against this "Bill".
VOTE "NO" on Bill 256/Draft 2.
Respectively,
Henry M. Calio
